Proposed Dams on Nujiang / Salween River
Dams Proposed for Nujiang
According to a statement March 5, 2005, by Wang Shucheng, Minister
of Water Resources in China, the central government will allow some of the
13 dams in the in the controversial Nujiang hydroelectric
project in Yunnan province to be built, but the remainder will
be put on hold for at least a year until a revised plan is completed.
Under the original plan one dam would be built in Tibet and 12 in
Yunnan having a total installed capacity of 21,320 MW and an annual
power output of 102.96 bln kWh. A summary of the original proposal
is given in the table below.

Dams Proposed for Salween
Five potential dam sites on the Salween in Burma and Thailand are
at Ta Sang, Wei Gyi, Dagwin, Mong Hta-Homong and Hat Gyi. Of these
the Ta Sang, Wei Gyi and Dagwin are the most likely to be built,
according to Salween
Watch.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) stated that
five dams could be built on the Salween river with total installed
power of 12,400 - 16,000 MW.
